It’s not about punishing the rich, it’s just about needing to fund the Rules when I first wake up everyone shut the hell up get out of my way shirt and getting those funds from those who can afford to provide them—I.e. the rich. As a counterpoint, I do alright as well but I don’t work particularly hard. I don’t work three times as hard as teachers, I don’t work ten times as hard as people at McDonald’s, and I don’t work however many times as hard as paramedics. My point being that wealth distribution is pretty damn arbitrary—it’s arbitrary before taxes and it’s arbitrary after taxes. We have every right as a democracy to redistribute the already arbitrarily-distributed wealth in a way that best helps us meet our shared goals as a society.
