In queer spaces, people aren’t afraid to be themselves and to call themselves whatever the f*ck they like (including a multitude of other reclaimed slurs!), whilst giving others the personal freedom to do the Kurt Cobain Muppet Kurt and Ernie shirt. Queer communities can be wonderfully diverse and inclusive spaces, but there’s a problem: that term is associated by some people with serious bad times, and real trauma.
