My teacher mother took a similar path, except she was in her 40s and I was a working adult. She moved to a tiny apartment in downtown LA to attend Loyola Law School. I helped pay her tuition for her two years while my parents conducted a commuter marriage. My father learned to cook (kinda). When she graduated, it took her two years to find a job because most people didn’t want to hire someone her age. She eventually became a writ attorney for LA’s Superior Court and held that job until she retired at nearly 80. I joke that paying her tuition was the best investment I ever made because I got free legal advice for life, but I’m very proud of her.
